Spread The Word

Last weekend saw the return of BBC 1Xtra Live, hosted this year in the city of Leeds. I can definitely report that the city turned out in droves to support the acts – the atmosphere was electric in the arena!

The line up consisted of:

– Tinie Tempah

– Miguel

– Natalie La Rose

– Flo Rida

– Fekky

– Lethal Bizzle

– Stormzy

– Kid Ink

– Krept & Konan

Fetty Wap was on the original line-up but due to his recent motorcycle accident he was unable to attend. There were a few further guest appearances from UK collective WSTRNas well asYungen, Sneakbo & Tempa T bringing welcomed additions to the event.

Miguel opened the show with his vibrant soulful sound, supported by a full live band with an electric edge; the good vibes of the night only increased from there. Flo Rida & Natalie La Rose gave good high-energy performances with complete backing dancer routines and great interaction with the crowd, encouraging audience sing-alongs to all their chart favourites. These were confident performances you would from expect from international stars.

Tinie Tempah provided a brilliant ending to the night with performances of hits including ‘Pass Out’, ‘Written in the Stars’, ‘Trampoline’ and ‘Not Letting Go’. To celebrate his latest track ‘Turn the Music Louder’ reaching number one on the iTunes chart he brought out fellow collaborator Katy B for a charged performance.

The highlights of the night for me though were definitely Stormzy and Lethal Bizzle! Stormzycame out and completely owned the stage with just him and his tracks. There were no gimmicks, no props, no hype man, just him with his music creating a compelling performance, proudly putting South London on the map. He seemed completely in his comfort zone amping up the crowd with tracks like ‘WickedSkengMan4’, ‘Shut Up’ and crowd favourite ‘Know Me From’.

Also seeming completely in his element, Lethal Bizzlehad the crowd jumping throughout his whole set. Four years on, whenever the ‘Pow’ intro drops the crowd still goes mental. ‘Fester Skank’ was another monster of the night with the whole arena finishing every punch line and chanting the chorus. The track got reloaded three times with a bigger response each time around – this was definitely a memorable moment of the night.
